Artist : Bagong Kussudiardjo

Bagong Kussudiardjo (1928-2004) was born in Yogyakarta, and got the education of painting from ASRI from 1950 to 1953. The art works by Bagong tended to the style of geometric deformation, then developed into an abstraction, and finally absolutely abstract. Besides, the development of the figurative forms reflecting the dance movement and religious fragments in the style of expressionism took place. Really, all of his art works were in line with the choreography he had pursed, namely expression. In 1953, he joined Sanggar Pelukis Indonesia ( Art Centre for Indonesian Painters ), and became the representative of the art centre to go to rumania, Bucharest, Italy, and Ceylon. In 1970, he was one of the pionners in batik painting in Yogyakarta. He got an award of Medali Emas ( Gold Medals ) from Pope VI, from the Government of Bangladesh in the exhibition of Asian Pacific and Dewan Gereja Sedunia ( World Church Convention ), and Karya Terbaik Biennale Seni Lukis Yogyakarta ( Best Works of Yogyakarta Biennale Painting ).
