Press Release : Contemporary Mexican Art Exhibition “Geographies”

The Embassy of Mexico, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Education of the Republic of Indonesia, through the National Gallery of Indonesia, will present the exhibition “Geographies”, a representative exhibition of contemporary Mexican art.

“Geographies” is a collective exhibition presenting artworks by four renowned Mexican artists: Betsabeé Romero (installation), María José de la Macorra  (installation), Enrique Rosas (digital art), and Alfredo de Stefano (photography).  They are four great talents of the contemporary Mexican art scene, creating and reflecting on the landscapes and personal realities of today’s Mexico and other lands beyond our borders.

The work of these artists will bring the Indonesian public closer to some avant-garde expressions of Mexican art, exhibited in a single conceptual framework under the title “Geographies”, referring to the different landscapes in Mexico and the world evoked in their creations: from the stricking colors of the desert, to the touching artistic side of the citizenry of the Mexican capital, from the atmospheric remembrance of marine landscapes, and the futuristic representations of our topography.

This exhibition is part of the long-standing artistic dialogue between Mexico and Indonesia, and it will continue enhancing our reciprocal understanding through the universal language of art.

The exhibition will be open to the public (free of charge) from November 30th to December 11th (everyday), 2017 at the National Galery of Indonesia, Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat No. 14, Gambir, Jakarta Pusat, Jakarta, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
