Press Release : Pameran EXI(S)T : Tomorrow As We Know It

EXI(S)T 2017: Tomorrow As We Know It

EXI(S)T is an incubation platform for young people in Jakarta to develop various artistic potentials, where critical dialogue among participants and mentors also curators becomes the main process. In contrast to existing programs, EXI(S)T is aimed to those who are no longer students and still new to ‘jump’ to various field  in creative industry, who also want to create artworks. EXI(S)T was first initiated by Hermawan Tanzil and FX Harsono in 2011 that invited them to ‘exit’ from the paths that they have undergone to ‘exist’ or ‘present’ on Indonesian art map, especially Jakarta.

After 5 consecutive years of mentoring, now EXI(S)T 2017 invites fifteen young Jakarta’s artists who have previously participated in this program to show their latest works together. They can represent the younger generation of Jakarta’s diverse visual art scene. National Gallery of Indonesia also supports this program by hosting EXI(S)T 2017. This is a milestone for EXI(S)T program and participating artists also confirms their presence in Indonesian art landscape.

“Tomorrow As We Know It” is an artistic theme of EXI(S)T 2017. The theme of this group exhibition invites artists to predict and interpret the future in terms of their personal interest. The future, both far or near, is elaborated in a variety of perspectives that represent young generations nowadays. The coming of the end time, spiritual issues, gender, science, and reality of cyberspace are among the topics displayed by the artists.
