News : Canvas Bag Painting Workshop for People with Disabilities

Galeri Nasional Indonesia (GNI), Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan mempunyai tugas dan fungsi diantaranya melaksanakan layanan Edukasi di bidang Seni Rupa. Layanan edukasi tersebut dilaksanakan dalam bentuk Program Bimbingan dan Edukasi untuk Pelajar, Mahasiswa, Guru, Perupa, Komunitas Seni Rupa, dan Masyarakat umum dalam rangka memperluas dan menambah wawasan tentang seni rupa dan segenap aspek terkait. Kegiatan ini rutin dilaksanakan baik di GNI ataupun di beberapa wilayah provinsi di Indonesia. Seperti Jakarta, Serang (Banten), Bandung (Jawa Barat), Sukabumi (Jawa Barat), Banyumas (Jawa Tengah), Pasuruan (Jawa Timur), Malang (Jawa Timur), Bekasi (Jawa Barat), Tasikmalaya (Jawa Barat), Cimahi (Jawa Barat), Solo (Jawa Tengah), Padang (Sumatera Barat), dan Jambi.

Kali ini, Program Bimbingan dan Edukasi kembali hadir sebagai satu rangkaian acara pada perhelatan Pameran Lukisan Koleksi Istana Kepresidenan “Senandung Ibu Pertiwi”. Berbeda dari sebelumnya, Program Bimbingan dan Edukasi yang diselenggarakan pada Kamis, 10 Agustus 2017 di Ruang Serbaguna Galeri Nasional Indonesia ini mengajak pelajar serta masyarakat umum penyandang disabilitas dari beberapa sekolah serta komunitas penyandang disabilitas di wilayah Jabodetabek. Kegiatan ini diselenggarakan sebagai upaya dalam memberi wadah kreativitas  bagi para disabel.

One of the tasks and functions of the National Gallery of Indonesia (GNI) is to carry out educational services in the field of visual art. The educational services are conducted in the form of guidance and education program for students, teachers, artists, visual art community, and public in order to broaden and give insight about visual art and related aspects. This activity is routinely conducted at the National Gallery of Indonesia as well as in some provinces in Indonesia. Previously the educational services were held in Jakarta, Serang (Banten), Bandung (West Java), Sukabumi (West Java), Banyumas (Central Java), Pasuruan (East Java), Malang (East Java), Bekasi (West Java), Tasikmalaya (West Java), Cimahi (West Java), Solo (Central Java), Padang (West Sumatera), and Jambi.

This time, the guidance and education program was presented as one of fringe events of the Presidential Palace’s Collection Painting Exhibition “Senandung Ibu Pertiwi”. The program which was held on Thursday, 10 August 2017 at the Multifunction Room of the National Gallery of Indonesia, invited students and public with disabilities from several schools and communities in the Jabodetabek area. This activity was held as an effort to provide a creativity space for people with disabilities.

The concept of this program is also adjusted for the participants. At first, they were presented with a motivation session by Sadikin Pard (an artist with disability). The participants were further given a knowledge about visual art by another speaker, namely Moelyono (artist), Tri Yuli Prasetyo (visual art educator), and Zamrud Setya Negara (Head of Exhibition and Partnership of the National Gallery of Indonesia). The participants were motivated and they also understood the right technics to process of textile paint, recognized characters of painting, learnt techniques of painting, also to pay attention to characters of visual art media (tools and materials).

This workshop of canvas bag painting for people with disabilities is expected to strengthen a good cooperation between education institutions and culture, especially the National Gallery of Indonesia with special need schools, communities for people with disabilities, and related institutions. This activity is also expected to be a platform to develop interest and talent in painting as well as raising the potential of the participants through visual art media. It is also a place for people with disabilities to show that they are also creative industry individuals.
