Press Release : A Painting Exhibition Yoes Rizal - pop-up/meletup
National Gallery of Indonesia in cooperation with Yoes Rizal Studio holds a Solo Exhibition by Yoes Rizal entitled “pop-up/meletus” on 9 – 22 February 2018 at D Building, National Gallery of Indonesia.
The curator Mahmud Dzafce mentioned there would be 25 abstract paintings presented. “His paintings can be defined as a loud ‘voice’ coming from thoughts as what people assume. Thoughts are presented in lines, colours, and spots always clashing each other like the reflection of sound vibes in a room, and at that moment also, by ignoring the surroundings, continue to go on and only look straight” said Mahmud Dzafce, a graduated of Magister Graphic Design from the University of Phristina-Kosovo.
Mahmud Dzafce moreover continued that Yoes’ artworks were captured as an unbroken encounter with himself, bringing to a closer look to his origin and nature expressed in his mature brush movement. His works are Waltz/dance of colours: orange, yellow, ochre and blue stitched-pulled with dark lines to the basic where unmeaning stainless symbols mixed as the signs of the subconscious. The dance of colours which sometimes seem unstructured and unknown yet calm are like a way out after a long quest to find the movement of life within the layers of mortal objects.
“His paintings seems to be an archive memory intentionally mixed like waves triggered from the outside intending to tell the souls to not suffer from anything they used to have. His paintings until now continue to intertwine with memories as a blossom symbol – announcing the upcoming Spring which he consistently shows connections between humid-dry and cool-hot,” explained Mahmud Dzafce.
Yoes Rizal is a contemporary generation artists graduated from the Faculty of Art, Bandung Institute of Technology who actively holds exhibitions on local as well as international scales. Yoes Rizal once held an exhibition at the National Gallery of Indonesia in 2012 in a group exhibition entitled ArtEnergy and Indonesia Art Award & Philip Morris Asia in 1999.
